Support to scrap stamp duty

Greenwood Property Consultants is proud to support the growing campaign led by the Conservative Party to scrap Stamp Duty on main residences, and we are encouraging both landlords and tenants to take a moment to sign the petition. As highlighted in recent industry commentary, Stamp Duty continues to act as a significant barrier across the housing market. Ollie Marshall of Prime Purchase described it as “a constant handbrake on people’s lives, not to mention the wider economy,” a sentiment we see reflected daily in our work with clients. For tenants, this tax can delay or completely prevent the transition into homeownership, while for landlords it can discourage strategic moves that would better align property supply with demand.

The proposed removal of Stamp Duty on primary residences—while still applying to additional properties and buy-to-let investments—has the potential to reshape the market in a meaningful way. As Ollie Marshall also noted, removing the tax would be “transformative,” calling it one of the UK’s most “toxic taxes” that “punishes young, growing families.”
At Greenwood Property Consultants, we believe a more fluid housing market benefits everyone: tenants gain clearer pathways to ownership, landlords operate in a more balanced and active marketplace, and overall supply can better meet demand. We strongly encourage our community to engage with this conversation and support the petition—this is an opportunity to push for a fairer, more accessible property market for all.
